Employee burn out and retaining top talent are
two of the biggest hurdles facing Australian businesses today.

A recent survey of workers across 25 countries, including 1,000 in Australia, found Australian office workers are the most burnt out in the world, ahead of Italy, China, Canada, the US and the UK.

IT’S TIME FOR A NEW WAY OF WORKING

It’s more than obvious that our corporate worlds have shifted significantly over the last 18 months, with Covid tipping our working ways on their head.

A large portion of us were already burning the candle at both ends before we were suddenly forced to take our work home with us; then given no choice but to learn how to juggle our work and home lives all under the one roof.

How do we continue to cope without throwing it all in, and quitting. Or worse having a mental break down?

This is a question Human Resource teams and Recruitment teams around Australia are scrambling to answer. And, I speak from experience as I’ve worked within both of these departments, for one of Australia’s largest companies over the past 3 years and have seen it play out first hand.

With mental health concerns on the rise, working hours increasing by 14% since 2020, and 63% of workers saying that they have worked more than 40 hours per week over the last 12 months, it is not surprising that burnout is highlighted as a cause for concern by almost 40% of the workforce.

HOW DO WE TACKLE EMPLOYEE BURN OUT?

On average it costs a business 33% of an employee’s annual salary to replace them. This combined with the under supply of good talent in our current market, finding staff is hard enough, let alone losing the amazing team you already have!
So answering the burn out question has never been more important for businesses.

This is where I come in.

As a breathwork and mindfulness mentor, I have created a unique program combining meditation, breathwork, biohacking tools and human connection to help assist in combatting the issue of burn out. By using these resources I aim to not only help prevent employee burn out, but also improve your overall business productivity and the levels of employee engagement across your company. By putting the power back in your employees’ hands to manage their own emotional wellbeing.

    • It helps those reconnect who are feeling disconnected due to working from home.

    • Promotes genuine inclusion in the workplace.

    • Leads to better collaboration and communication, taking away the need for as many meetings and giving employees more time back in their day.

A report by PwC commissioned by Beyond Blue found that for every dollar a workplace spends on creating a mentally healthy environment, an average of $2.30 is actually returned in benefits.

It is the responsibility of each business to ensure their employees have the appropriate tools to manage their mental health in the workplace, just as much as it is the responsibility of the employee to utilise them. It goes both ways.
